I have friends who’re on the Keto diet, and I love hearing and learning new things about what they can and can NOT eat while on it. In doing my research, I learned that the Keto Diet really isn’t as restrictive as I had previously thought! That said, take a peek at these 9 Tasty Foods You Can Eat on the Keto Diet, and let me know if you’re at all surprised.
Red Meat and Chicken
We often hear about how meat, poultry, and seafood are a high-quality protein source, but did you know that they contain essential nutrients that cannot be found in plant foods?
Fresh meat is packed with B vitamins and several minerals, including potassium, selenium, and zinc. They also contain varying levels of creatine, taurine, carnosine, and an easily absorbable form of iron.
These are all good, excellent even, especially fatty fish like salmon. However, avoid breading, as it contains carbs. If you can find wild-caught fish that’s the very best.
Vegetables are a great and tasty way to eat good fat on the Keto Diet. Fry them in butter and pour plenty of olive oil on your salad. Some even think of vegetables as a fat-delivery system. They also add more variety, flavor and color to your Keto Diet meals.
A moderate amount of berries is OK on Keto, perhaps with real whipping cream, a popular keto dessert.
Thanks to their high-fat content and lack of sugar and carbohydrates, avocados are a dream keto food. Just don’t pair this fatty fruit with chips or toast in order to sick to ketogenic principles. Enjoy avocado as a topping on your salad, or as a side to your morning bacon and eggs.
Cheese, Yoghurt, Sour Cream
Dairy is a great source of fat on a ketogenic diet, but be mindful not over-do the protein. Although milk (yep, even raw, full-fat, or goat milk) is too high in lactose sugars, you can stay in ketosis with foods like butter, ghee, cheeses or Greek yogurt.
For those with lactose intolerance, harder, longer-aged ferments are easiest to digest.
