How to Start a Blog that Makes Money

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that they wanted to start a blog of some kind, I’d have about a dollar 😉

Today, we’ll start talking about how to easily create a blog on your own, and how to start a WordPress blog. You can start a blog that makes you money, and lets you quit that job that you hate so much.

If you haven’t already figured it out; I’m cheap. That doesn’t mean that I like cheap things, for cheap, that means that I want at least the same high priced quality as offered by others, but at a lower price. The web host that I chose to go with for my blogs (including this one) is by far, less expensive than everyone else I researched, and the quality is the same, or better than those others.

The #1 Rule for starting a Blog that Makes Money?

You CANNOT start and run or maintain that blog on a FREE host like Blogger or WordPress.com. Don’t even think it. There are a million reasons why a Blogger/Blogspot blog is a truly bad idea for a serious blogger, and you should absolutely setup a WordPress (.org) blog using a web host like Bluehost.

If you’re truly interested in making money from your blog at any point, I have to tell you that paying for your blog hosting through a hosting provider, is an absolute MUST.

It’s super cheap to get your hosting through Bluehost (MUCH cheaper than through most others), and the hosting capabilities are the same as other, more expensive hosting providers. You can run any of your own advertisements, affiliate links, etc. with a blog hosted with Bluehost. You can’t easily do the things that make money for you on your blog, like run advertising and affiliate links on a free blogging platform.

Making money on Blogger or any other free blogging platform is very difficult, if not completely impossible. In addition, most advertisers and companies don’t view free blogs as seriously as self-hosted (WordPress) blogs, so that’s another big reason to use Bluehost.

I started this blog because I wanted to do something that I loved for a living. In order to do that, I had to build it as a self hosted website.

I’ve been blogging on and off for about the past 8 years, but didn’t take it seriously until very recently. It lets me work from home, my schedule is flexible and life is good. Anyone can make money with a blog, and so far I’ve been able to at least make back the money that I paid for this blog and then some, and more is coming.

Head over to Bluehost to purchase your domain name and hosting package, and get started building!

Peace! 🙂

  1. I didn’t really start my blog to make money (or for the freebies) would you believe! I started my blog to document my travel memories, from all of the trips that I’ve been on. I’ve been blogging for 2 years since January, and I’ve made £100 from one sponsored post LOL, but that’s ok for me, as I’m not in it for the money 🙂 I do agree that a lot of companies want Wordpres or self hosted blogs these days, if they’re going to work with a blogger – I personally use GoDaddy x
