6 Health Benefits of Sleeping Naked

Sleeping is one of the most valuable things that we do for our bodies. Evidence suggests that ditching your sleepwear may in fact have a number of healthy benefits, including better sleep. Strangely enough, only 8 percent of Americans admit to sleeping naked. Regardless, here are 6 Health Benefits of Sleeping Naked.

6 Health Benefits of Sleeping Naked

Healthier Skin and Privates

Bacteria thrive in warm, moist areas, so going “al fresco”, including underwear, can be particularly beneficial for women who’re prone to yeast infections. Other areas, including your armpits (and skin in general) also benefit from being able to breathe.

Gives you a feeling of freedom 🙂

Just imagine the feeling of lying in bed with your pj’s on. Now imagine that you’ve taken the pj’s off, and dropped them on the floor. You’re completely naked. You’re free of your pants and underwear. Women, you’re not wearing a constrictive bra. It’s just you chillin’ between two  sheets. The feeling just makes you want to smile from ear to ear, and it makes you feel more free. Everyone can use that kind of good feeling every now and then, and it may even help you be happier as a person.

Skin on Skin Baby!

The third of our 6 Health Benefits of Sleeping Naked, is skin on skin contact. Even newborns are comforted by skin on skin contact, so why should adults be any different? Skin-on-skin contact releases the “bonding” hormone oxytocin, which promotes feelings of attachment and emotional closeness.

Better Sleep

When you’re not fighting with that ‘boa constrictor’ nightie that twists itself around your body by 3 am, or those PJ pants that ride up to your thighs as you hit REM, you’d be surprised by the insane quality of sleep that you’re actually capable of! You get a better, deeper sleep. Period.

Hormone Balance

The fifth of our 6 Health Benefits of Sleeping Naked, is hormone balance. Sleeping naked helps decrease cortisol, increase growth hormone and balance Melatonin, by allowing your body to stay cooler at night. All of these things help promote healthy sleep patterns and reduce anxiety, stress and food cravings.

Improved Sperm Quality for Men

Men can absolutely benefit from sleeping “commando.” A man’s testicles are designed to keep sperm at a temperature that’s slightly below his core body temperature. Underwear that bunch up and keep the testicles close to the body may reduce sperm quality and affect a man’s fertility.
