There are so many ways to make money online right now, it’s mind-bending. Affiliate marketing tends to come up more often than not in terms of doing research for ‘how to make money online’, but there’s one thing that I consider to be ‘the key to success with affiliate marketing’.
Sure, you can build a blog, and throw up some affiliate links, cross your fingers and check your stats 100+ times a day.
But even though some would lead you to believe that affiliate marketing is just that easy, I’m gonna tell you…IT AIN’T.
When you’re looking for ways to make money with your blog or website, affiliate marketing is a total no-brainer. When I first started affiliate marketing, the first product that I promoted was a book, that I made my first $7 commission on by way of a blog that I’d built.
Seeing that $7 in my account HOOKED me! Sure…it wasn’t much money, but that $7 got me thinking that if someone would give me $7 to essentially talk about their product, I could find a product that paid a lot more!
I have no idea what happened to that book, but I do know that I got many more commission payments after that first $7, and moved onto products that pay a lot more.
I once had an online store that sold reusable shopping bags. I made my first sale before I’d even finished setting up the store, to a complete stranger! On the one hand, that was great because it gave me a ridiculous amount of confidence, and at the same time, it was terrible, because it made me believe that all of my sales would come that easily. They didn’t, and I grew anxious, which is the total opposite of The Key to Success with Affiliate Marketing.
When you first get into affiliate marketing, the tendency is to pick your product(s), load your links/creatives and expect that you’re going to make your first sale (and any others) in a huge hurry.
It doesn’t usually work that way. In fact, it rarely works that way, unless you build a blog/website that already has a ton of anticipated traffic (yessss…there are those who say that traffic doesn’t matter, but in my opinion, and logically speaking, they’re wrong).
The key to success with affiliate marketing is patience. Once you’ve set up your affiliate links, written your posts in a way that converts, all you really need to do is have some patience, and the sales will happen.
You also don’t want to check your stats dozens of times a day, because as my mom still says, “a watched pot never boils”. Write your post, link your products and move on to the marketing portion of the plan. Before you know it, your sales will start adding up, and you’ll be on your way to affiliate marketing success 🙂
